About this template
This template gives you a to do list app that looks polished and personal from the first launch. You do not need to wire up a task engine, build a sidebar, or figure out drag-and-drop from scratch.
Smart lists that auto-sort by due date, a frosted-glass quick-add composer, drag-to-reorder with keyboard support, and a detail panel with notes, links, and image attachments are already built in. You can focus on organizing your work, not building the tool that organizes it.
What ships out of the box: four built-in smart lists (Inbox, Today, Upcoming, Starred), unlimited custom lists you can create and rename inline, five date-filter pills, full-text search across every task, a collapsible completed-tasks section, and a 20-wallpaper picker with real crossfade transitions. The detail panel lets you attach due dates via a calendar popover, write notes that auto-expand, paste links that validate and open in new tabs, and drop in images that enlarge in a lightbox. Ten languages are included, from English and Spanish to Japanese and Korean.
Compare that to building from a blank React project: you would spend days on the sidebar alone, more days on the drag layer, and still need to style the whole thing. Off-the-shelf to do list apps, meanwhile, lock you into their design and their feature set. This template sits in the middle: production-quality code you own and can reshape however you want.
Daily task triage for busy weeks
When your calendar fills up, the Today and Upcoming smart lists surface what matters without manual sorting. Star urgent items, set due dates, and let the date-bucket grouping (Today, Tomorrow, This Week, Later) do the triaging for you. You reclaim the 15 minutes you used to spend scanning a flat list every morning.
Tracking deliverables across multiple projects
Create a custom list for each project or client. The sidebar shows live counts of incomplete tasks per list, so you can spot an overloaded workstream at a glance. Drag tasks to reorder priority inside each list, and use the detail panel to attach reference links and screenshots that keep context next to the task instead of buried in a chat thread.
Running a lightweight product backlog
Product managers can use the star flag as a "next sprint" marker and filter by Starred to build a focused shortlist. Notes fields hold acceptance criteria, image attachments hold mockups, and the link field points to specs or design files. It is not a full project management suite, and that is the point: it moves faster than one.
Personal goal tracking with visual motivation
The wallpaper picker turns a utility screen into something you actually want to open. Pick a mountain landscape for deep-work sessions or a coastal photo for lighter planning. Completed tasks collapse behind a count, giving you a visible record of progress without cluttering the active view.
Getting Started
1. Remix this template
Open the template and click Remix. You get a working to do list app in your own Lovable workspace, pre-loaded with a three-task tutorial that walks you through starring, setting due dates, and opening the detail panel.
2. Customize your brand
Swap the default wallpaper, pick one of the 20 included photos, or replace the wallpaper data file with your own image URLs. Update the color tokens in the CSS variables block to match your brand palette: the warm-black tint ramp and accent colors for each smart list are defined in one place, so a single edit propagates everywhere.
3. Add your content
Delete the tutorial tasks and start creating your own lists. Name them after projects, clients, or life areas. Add tasks with due dates and stars, attach notes and reference links in the detail panel, and let the smart lists organize everything automatically.
4. Connect your tools
The template stores data in localStorage out of the box. To sync across devices, connect a Supabase backend: the reducer architecture and TanStack Query provider are already wired, so you swap the persistence layer without rewriting business logic. Add authentication to support multiple users, or wire Supabase Edge Functions for reminders and notifications.
5. Go live
Deploy with one click from Lovable. Point a custom domain to it, share the URL with your team or keep it as a personal productivity tool. The responsive layout works on desktop and mobile, so you can triage tasks from your phone during a commute.
This to do list app template works for founders, operators, and product managers who want a task management tool shaped to their workflow. You get drag-to-reorder without building a drag layer, smart lists without writing filter logic, and a detail panel without designing one from scratch.
Your next weekly planning session could happen inside a tool you built yourself. Remix the template this afternoon, customize it tonight, and have a working to do list app ready before your Monday standup.
Features & capabilities
Smart list auto-sorting
Four built-in lists, Inbox, Today, Upcoming, and Starred, filter tasks by due date and status so you see what matters without manual sorting.
Drag-to-reorder tasks
Reorder tasks by dragging them into position with pointer or keyboard. A 5px activation distance prevents accidental moves during normal clicks.
Quick-add composer
Frosted-glass input bar with inline date picker and star toggle. Press Enter to add a task with a due date and priority in one step.
Task detail panel
Slide-out panel with notes, validated URL links, image attachments with lightbox preview, and calendar-based due date selection for full task context.
Wallpaper crossfade theming
Choose from 20 curated Unsplash photos that crossfade smoothly on selection. Thumbnails load at 200px for fast rendering in the picker grid.
Custom list management
Create, rename, and delete unlimited custom lists inline. Deleting a list reparents its tasks to Inbox so nothing is lost.
Date bucket grouping
Tasks auto-group under Today, Tomorrow, This Week, Later, and No Date headers. Empty groups hide automatically to keep the view clean.
Full-text search
Live search filters across all task titles as you type. Results span every list, so you find any task without remembering where you filed it.
Collapsible completed section
Finished tasks collapse behind a count badge at the bottom of each list, giving you a progress record without cluttering the active view.
